It seems like Niche Sites and Content Sites are the flavour of the month when it comes to making money on the Internet. It's a simple idea. Basically, you create a site based on a popular subject, and fill it with articles about that subject. For example, you might choose Indoor Gardening. This is classified as a niche because it is a specific branch of a subject.
The idea is that being content-rich, Google treats it as a valuable site and gives it a high rank, so it appears on the first page of Google results when somebody searches for keywords associated with that niche.
But what about making money?
Well, you sign up for Google AdSense and put your link on every page of the site. If your readers click the Ads, you get paid.
You can also add affiliate links, advertising relevant products. If your readers buy from those linked sites, you get your affiliate commission.
It seems that typically, a good niche site will return about £100 to £150 per month.
Not much, you may think, but what if you had 10 niche sites? Or 20? Or 100?
There really are people out there with 100 or more niche sites, making them an average of £12,000 per month. That's about half the average annual salary in just one month, or to put it another way, an amazing 6 times the UK annual salary.
So another one of my projects is now setting up niche sites.
By the way, "niche" is pronounced "neesh", and not "nitch" as you often hear some Internet Marketers say. It's from an Old French word nicher meaning "to nest".
